The purpose of this project is to facilitate the provision of clean water for those in impoverished areas who are in dire need of it. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “The best charity is giving water.”
Sa’d ibn ‘Ubadah reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, my mother has died. Shall I give charity on her behalf?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Yes.” I said, “Which charity is best?” The Prophet said, “A drink of water.”

Some Reasons to Build a Well (Why Should You Donate?)
It brings you closer to Allah
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah, Glorified and Exalted, will say on the Day of Judgment: ‘O son of Adam, I was ill, but you did not visit Me.’ He will respond: ‘O Lord, how could I visit You and You are the Lord of the worlds?’ Allah will say: ‘Did you not know that My Servant, so-and-so, was ill but you did not visit him? Do you not know that if you had visited him, you would have found Me with him? O son of Adam, I asked you for food, but you did not feed Me.’ He will respond: ‘O Lord, how could I feed You and You are the Lord of the worlds?’ He will say: ‘Did you not know that My Servant, so-and-so, asked you for food, but you did not feed him? Do you not know that if you had fed him, you would have found (its reward) with Me? O son of Adam, I asked you for water, but you did not give Me any.’ He will respond: ‘O Lord, how could I give You (water) to drink and You are the Lord of the worlds?’ And Allah will say: ‘My Servant, so-and-so, asked you for a drink, but you did not give him one. Do you not know that if you had given him a drink, you would have found (its reward) with Me?'”
Sahih Muslim
It saves lives
The gift of water saves lives, which is a hugely rewardable action. Allah says in the Qur’an
And whoever saves one [a life] – it is as if he had saved all of mankind.
Qur’an, 5:32
Imagine this – every single time the clean water you donated saves someone’s life, it is as if you have saved all of mankind!
It is ‘the best charity’
The Messenger of Allah (saw) was asked, “Which charity is best?” He replied, “[Providing] water
Abu Dawud
We use water for everything, from washing dishes to cooking food to growing crops. Allah says in the Qur’an,
By means of water, we give life to everything.
Qur’an, 21:30
Communities who don’t have access to clean water face unimaginable hardships, with women and children walking for hours to collect even a little water,
Providing them with water is an excellent Sadaqah.
Give how much you can – Allah will reward you
Not all of us are able to build wells for entire communities – but don’t worry,
A reward is based on the sincerity of our intention, and even giving a single glass of water carries immense rewards if it’s all you can give.
You’re smiling in the face of your brother is charity, commanding good and forbidding evil is charity, your giving directions to a man lost in the land is charity for you. You’re seeing for a man with bad sight is a charity for you, your removal of a rock, a thorn or a bone from the road is charity for you. You’re pouring what remains from your bucket into the bucket of your brother is charity for you
Even if ‘what remains in your bucket’ doesn’t seem like a lot, by donating to our Water Project, this money can go towards building wells, ultimately benefiting thousands of people. Every donation matter, because it all adds up!
It leads to forgiveness for your sins
Allah’s Messenger (saw) said, ‘A prostitute was forgiven by Allah, because, passing by a panting dog near a well and seeing that the dog was about to die of thirst, she took off her shoe, and tying it with her head-cover she drew out some water for it. So, Allah forgave her because of that’.
Bukhari
You can build a well in someone else’s name
On the authority of Sa ‘d bin ’Ubadah that he said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Umm (mother of) Sa‘d has died, so which charity is best?’ He (saw) replied, ‘[Providing] water’. He (ra) said, ‘So [Sa’d] dug a well and said, “This (well) is for Umm Sa‘d”’
Abu Dawud
It is the ultimate Sadaqah Jariyah
The gift of water can often bring communities back to life through the ultimate Sadaqah Jariyah chain reaction. Clean water leads to healthy livestock, healthy people, more children in school, more women in jobs, improved agriculture and sustainable livelihoods. By building a well in a deprived community, you will get the reward for every single one of these things, in sha Allah.
